<p>In the tech world, we are currently obsessed with “agentic AI” — autonomous bots that can book flights, write code and trade stocks. But while Silicon Valley chases the next trillion-dollar productivity tool, a much quieter, more dangerous crisis is happening in our hospitals and homes: the health literacy gap<b>.</b></p>

<p>According to the <a href=”https://www.cdc.gov/health-literacy/php/about/tell-others.html” target=”_blank”>Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)</a>, nearly 9 in 10 adults struggle to understand and use personal and public health information. When a patient leaves a clinic with a prescription they can’t read or a diagnosis they don’t understand, the result isn’t just confusion — it’s missed doses, worsening conditions and preventable hospital readmissions.</p>

<p>I saw this gap firsthand. As an engineer, I spent my days building complex AI systems for Fortune 100 companies. But back home, I saw friends and family struggle to decode simple medical advice because it was buried in jargon or unavailable in their native language (Telugu). I realized that AI’s greatest potential wasn’t just in generating code; it was in translation. Not just translating English to Telugu, but translating “medical” to “human.”</p>

<p>In fintech (my day job), accuracy is the only metric that matters. I realized healthtech required that same “zero-tolerance for error” discipline. We couldn’t afford the “move fast and break things” mentality.</p>

We realized that the AI shouldn’t be the interface; it should be the engine. Instead of building a chatbot that requires user input, we used generative AI on the backend to transform dense medical journals into simple, vernacular content.</p>

<p>Building HealthNeem taught me that the gap between “what AI can do” and “what people need” is still massive. We have enough tools to write marketing emails. We have enough bots to generate images of cats in space. What we lack are tools that help a mother understand her child’s fever or help a senior citizen manage their medication.</p>

<p>For entrepreneurs, this is the blue ocean. Look for the areas where information is dense, scary and inaccessible. That is where AI shines. Don’t just build a smarter calculator, but a better bridge.</p>
