How to cancel Disney+ and avoid the price hike

Many subscribers are fed up with Disney+ and its price hikes.

The streaming service toptechtrends.com/2023/08/10/disney-announces-another-price-hike-says-ad-supported-tier-is-coming-to-more-countries/”>announced last week that it will increase the price of its ad-free plan on October 12, raising the tier by about 20% from $10.99 to $13.99 per month. The ad-free option cost toptechtrends.com/2022/08/10/disney-is-increasing-the-price-of-its-ad-free-disney-subscription-to-10-99/”>$7.99/month a year ago; however, it went up after Disney+ toptechtrends.com/2022/12/08/disney-launches-its-ad-supported-tier/”>launched its ad-supported plan.

Unfortunately, this is a story we’ve heard again and again not only from Disney+ and its sister streaming service Hulu — which will be jumping from $14.99 to $17.99/month — but also rivals like toptechtrends.com/2023/07/17/peacock-is-set-to-raise-its-subscription-prices-on-august-17/”>Peacock, toptechtrends.com/2023/01/12/hbo-maxs-ad-free-monthly-subscription-price-is-increasing-by-1/”>Max (formerly HBO Max) and toptechtrends.com/2023/05/24/paramount-to-increase-in-price-when-it-combines-with-showtime-on-june-27/”>Paramount, among others. Netflix recently toptechtrends.com/2023/07/19/netflix-removes-its-basic-tier-in-the-us-and-the-uk/”>axed its basic ad-free tier in the U.S., the U.K. and toptechtrends.com/2023/06/26/netflix-quietly-axes-its-basic-plan-in-canada/”>Canada.

Another disheartening realization is that, starting in the fall, the average cable subscription ($83/month) will be $4 cheaper than paying for all the major U.S. streaming services ($87/month), according to the Financial Times. The data is notable since cord-cutters initially dropped their toptechtrends.com/2023/08/15/linear-tv-viewing-sinks-below-50-nielsen-july-2023-report/”>cable TV packages because streaming services’ prices were more affordable. Ah, those were the days, huh?
